Berdin Holds off Milwaukee in OT

Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (5-4-0-0) and Milwaukee Admirals (8-1-2-0) clashed in a rematch of Saturday's tilt at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Tuesday night. The first period didn't yield an opening tally, despite the teams combining for 27 shots on goal. Mikhail Berdin, making his second straight start, turned aside 13 Milwaukee offerings, while Tom McCollum stopped 14 Moose attempts.
The contest was stuck in a scoreless deadlock until the 10:13 mark of the second when Sami Niku took matters into his own hands. The Moose defender meandered around the zone before putting together a flashy series of moves to get into a shooting lane and pick the top corner for his first of the season. The Moose lead only lasted four minutes as Nicholas Baptiste tied things up 1-1 on a power play goal. Manitoba fired chance after chance at McCollum, but couldn't regain the lead. The teams went to the third tied 1-1, but the Moose held a 29-19 lead on the shot clock.
The third period saw both teams clamp down defensively and offensive chances dwindled. Berdin made nine saves, while McCollum stopped eight as the two clubs rolled into overtime. Milwaukee fired the first two shots on goal of the extra frame, but Berdin was equal to the task. The Moose came back the other way and put the pressure on. Mason Appleton and Michael Spacek each had good looks, but couldn't put end the contest. Not to be denied, Spacek made a move to the net and put a gorgeous backhand feed over to Appleton, who fired home the winner as the Moose came out of Milwaukee with a 2-1 victory.
