Charlotte Checkers News Release
The Charlotte Checkers today announced that their annual Military Appreciation Night presented by GEICO will take place this Saturday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. during their game against the Providence Bruins.
Ticket discounts for military members can be purchased in advance by contacting the Checkers at (704) 342-4423. Once at the game, active and retired armed forces members with ID can receive 15 percent off all items at the Checkers merchandise stand.
The Checkers will begin the evening by wearing special military-themed jerseys presented by Verizon during the pregame warm-up period. The jerseys, which will be worn during warm-ups at five other games this season, will be available for auction in April. An image is attached to this release.
Other festivities include the ceremonial pregame puck drop by a dog from Project2Heal, a local nonprofit that breeds, nurtures and trains Labrador Retrievers to provide healing for those with physical and emotional challenges, and a performance of God Bless American by Army Sergeant First Class Marion Hollingsworth Jr. There will also be a swear-in ceremony featuring 60 Army recruits during the first intermission and a AAA Military Tow Truck will be parked on the plaza in front of Bojangles' Coliseum.
Also on Saturday, fans can donate four or more cans of food to Loaves and Fishes and receive a free ticket to the Checkers' game on Sunday, Nov. 25, courtesy of Farm Bureau Insurance. Fans are also invited to stay after the game and take a shot on the ice as part of the team's first Slap Shot Saturday of the season.
Individual tickets to Saturday's game can be purchased now via Ticketmaster and the Bojangles' Coliseum box office.
