SAN DIEGO - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled center Kalle Kossila and right wing Kiefer Sherwood from the San Diego Gulls, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, Anaheim has assigned center Sam Steel and center Joseph Blandisi to San Diego.
Kossila, 25 (4/14/93), has earned 1-1=2 points in 11 career NHL games with Anaheim. Kossila made his NHL debut on Jan. 25, 2017 vs. Edmonton and scored his first career NHL goal on Oct. 26, 2017 at Florida. The 5-10, 185-pound center began the 2018-19 season in San Diego, scoring three goals in two AHL games. Signed as a free agent on Mar. 30, 2016, Kossila has earned 40-69=109 points with a +18 rating in 128 career AHL games.
Sherwood, 23 (3/31/95) has recorded 2-2=4 points with a +5 rating in 12 games with Anaheim this season. Signed as a free agent on Mar. 19, 2018, Sherwood earned his first career NHL point (assist) in his NHL debut on Oct. 3 at San Jose, and scored his first career NHL goal on Oct. 13 at Dallas. The 6-0, 194-pound forward made his professional debut with San Diego in 2017-18, scoring two goals in 11 AHL games.
Steel, 20 (2/3/98), collected 1-2=3 points in 13 games with the Ducks this season. Selected by Anaheim in the first round (30th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Steel made his NHL debut on Oct. 3, 2018 at San Jose and scored his first career NHL goal on Oct. 21, 2018 vs. Buffalo. Selected by Anaheim in the first round (30th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, the 5-11, 186-pound center has yet to make his AHL debut.
Blandisi, 24 (7/18/94), was scoreless with six penalty minutes (PIM) in three games with the Ducks this season. The 5-11, 187-pound forward owns 8-18=26 points with 68 PIM in 74 career NHL games with Anaheim and New Jersey. Acquired from New Jersey with Adam Henrique and a 2018 third-round pick in exchange for Sami Vatanen and a conditional draft pick on Nov. 30, 2017, Blandisi began the season with 0-2=2 points and six PIM in three AHL games with San Diego.
