Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Beast Dominate Elmira Jackals in 4-2 Decision for Second Straight Win
Luc-Olivier Blain picked a great time to pot his first goal of the season for the Brampton Beast.
The 27-year-old forward from Longueuil, Quebec's early third period goal was the difference in a 3-2 road win for the Beast over their divisional rivals the Elmira Jackals at First Arena on Friday night. This victory gives the Beast back-to-back wins for the first time this season, their first regulation victory, and it extended their winning streak against the Jackals to five games.
Mike Vernace, David Pacan and Yannick Veilleux also scored for the Beast, and Brandon Marino also chipped in with three assists. Team Captain Marino now has 13 points, and first-year Beast player Pacan has 12 points respectively during individual seven-game point streaks.
Another impressive streak for the Beast is that this was the seventh straight game that saw at least three different players score a goal. This stat is a testament to the Beast's strong team offense.
Brampton's offensive game was firing on all cylinders as they outshot the struggling Jackals 33-19.
The visitors got themselves started on the right foot by peppering goaltender Andy Iles with 14 shots in the first period. The netminder - who was the biggest reason the game was tight on the scoreboard until the end - did not yield a goal in the frame.
The opportunistic Jackals struck first when Daultan Leveille beat Beast goalie Zach Fucale on a breakaway at 8:42 of the period.
Fucale bounced back and made a highlight-reel cross-crease pad save to keep the deficit at one heading into the first intermission. Fucale made 17 saves to earn his second ECHL win.
Brampton continued to press the attack in the second period. The Beast got on the board at 3:38 when Vernace banged the puck into the open net from the slot when the rebound of a Veilleux shot from the right boards bounced to his stick. This goal was Vernace's first of the season.
Pacan gave the Beast their first lead of the night when he ripped a hard slap shot from the high slot past Iles at 12:51. Pacan now has a team-leading five goals on the season.
Charlie Mosey of the Jackals replied at 17:17 to send this game to the second intermission deadlocked at two.
While the third period was much more evenly-played than the first two, the Beast were rewarded for their dominance with Blain's game-winning goal at 5:03. He took a slick behind-the-net pass from Marino and unleashed a hard wrist shot that sailed by Iles.
The Jackals did make a late charge for the equalizer, but Veilleux ultimately put the game away with an empty net goal at 19:30.
The Beast will be back in action against the Jackals at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night at First Arena. The Beast will attempt to match their franchise-high record of three straight wins.
Notes: This was the sixth time in eight games that the Beast have scored at least four goals. This was the Beast's first two-goal win of the season. The Beast were 3 for 3 on the PK and 0 for 4 on the PP.
