ECHL Allen Americans

Road Trip Continues Tonight in Utah

November 11, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release

West Valley City, UT - The Allen Americans resume their four-game road trip tonight near Salt Lake City against the Utah Grizzlies, at the Maverik Center at 8:00 PM CST.

The Americans have dropped four straight games coming into tonight's contest losing a 4-3 decision to Colorado on Wednesday night, in a game they led heading into the final period.

Americans Assistant Captain Aaron Gens was not in the lineup on Wednesday night in Colorado. He was a healthy scratch for the first time playing under Head Coach Steve Martinson. Gens, who has been around for both Kelly Cup Championships in Allen, set the Americans single- season points record by a defenseman with 56, in his first year with the club back in the 2014-2015 season. He has just two points so far in ten games and knows he and his teammates have to be better.

"It's never easy sitting out," said Gens. "You feel helpless watching your team get beat out on the ice while I'm sitting in the stands. We're going through a tough stretch right now, but I know the guys in this room and we have way too much character and pride to go down without a fight. I'll work harder and do whatever I have to do to get back in the lineup to help get this turned around quickly."

Allen is off to its worst start in franchise history at 4-7-0, five points behind first place Colorado in the ECHL Mountain Division. The Americans are o-3 so far within their own division and have a chance to move closer to .500 with two games against Utah this weekend.

Chad Costello continues to lead the team in scoring with 13 points in 11 games. Costello is third in the league with 11 helpers. Greger Hanson leads the team in goals scored with six and is now just three shy of 100 for his pro career scoring number 97 on Wednesday night in Colorado.

Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson remains just three wins away from 900 victories in his coaching career with 897, while the Americans are one win away from their 300th franchise win.

Puck drop tonight is at 8:05 PM North Texas time. You can watch the game on ECHL TV or listen online at www.hot1073fm.com.

The Americans return home to meet the Rapid City Rush on November 19th at Allen Event Center. Tickets are on sale NOW at www.allenamericans.com or call 972-912-1000.

Don't forget- Allen Americans Player of the Month voting is going on right now at 5th Street Pizza in Allen. Drop by 5th Street today to cast your vote for the player you feel is most deserving to be November's Player of the Month. The Americans will recognize October's winner at the game on November 19th.
