Hershey Bears News Release

(Hershey, PA) - The Hershey Bears nine-game Giant Center win streak came to a close on Saturday night in a 4-1 loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Garrett Pilon scored Hershey's lone goal in the second period, and Ilya Samsonov stopped 14 of 17 shots.

Bridgeport started the scoring only 1:58 into the game courtesy of Michael Dal Colle's 18th goal of the season. A quick shot from the left circle glanced over Samsonov's glove hand and into the cage. Later in the frame, Bridgeport went to work on their first power play after Tyler Lewington was whistled for cross-checking at 15:04. Right as the power play expired, Steve Bernier scored on the rebound after an acrobatic save by Samsonov moving to his left. The Sound Tigers led 2-0 after 20 minutes with a 10-7 shot advantage over the Bears.

Next period, crafty, hard work by the Shane Gersich, Pilon and Beck Malenstyn offensive line pulled Hershey within one. Only 1:50 into the middle frame, Pilon beat Tigers goaltender Christopher Gibson bar-down on a wrist shot for his sixth goal of the season. At 13:17, Bridgeport restored their two-goal advantage in the middle frame and took a 3-1 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes. On the power play, Travis St. Denis tallied unassisted for his 14th goal of the year. Shots on goal after 40 minutes were 22-16.

Into the third, Hershey continuously dictated the pace while paying five-on-five, but were held off the score sheet at the hands of Gibson. The Bridgeport netminder finished the game stopping 37 of 38 shots to secure first star honors. Tanner Fritz added an empty net goal at 19:11 to secure the 4-1 final. Hershey's power play finished 0-for-4 and penalty kill 2-for-3 on the night.

The Hershey Bears return to action to kick off three games in three nights on Friday, Mar. 8 in Providence. The Bears will play the Bruins in back-to-back nights before concluding the weekend on Sunday in Hartford. Puck drop for Friday's tilt is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Voice of the Bears Zack Fisch will have the call on the Bears Radio Network.
