Ottawa Noticing Belleville's Point Streak

March 2, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release

As the Belleville Senators continue to make waves around the AHL with its 16-game point streak, the team's parent club is also starting to take notice.

Belleville has gone 11-0-1-4 to earn points in its last 16 games, a franchise record that seems set to stand for many years to come. If the Sens grab at least a point tonight against Manitoba and push its streak to 17, they will climb into the Top 10 all-time, since 2001, AHL point streaks.

With the Ottawa Senators currently in the midst of a rebuild the NHL club has a number of players who have played for Belleville over the past 18 months including Rudolfs Balcers, Thomas Chabot, Ben Harpur, Christian Jaros, Colin White and Christian Wolanin.

And they're noticing what Belleville has been up to since Jan. 19.

"We have so many good young guys down there and it's exciting to see them all doing well," White said. "I haven't seen a streak like that in a while from our organization so it's exciting.

"The coach down there is doing a great job with them."

The Sens sits two points behind Utica for the final playoff spot in the North Division. With a number of players in Belleville projected to be major contributors for Ottawa in the future, including Drake Batherson, Logan Brown, Max Lajoie, Nick Paul and Jack Rodewald - all of whom who have played for Ottawa this season - alongside newcomers Vitaly Abramov and Erik Brannstrom, a deep playoff run would be a beneficial experience for the Sens' future stars.

"They've been really good," Jaros said of Belleville's point streak. "I'm happy for the guys that it's going good for them and hopefully they can continue it and have a successful rest of the year."
