March 2, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The Belleville Senators' point streak hit 17 games after a 4-0 win over the Manitoba Moose Saturday night at CAA Arena.
Belleville's Darren Archibald, Vitaly Abramov, Adam Tambellini and Drake Batherson scored while Marcus Hogberg made 27 saves. Moose goaltender Mikhail Berdin stopped 31 shots.
After a goalless first, the Sens opened the scoring through Archibald at 6:10 as on a short-handed 4-on-3 effort, he fired a wrister past Berdin's blocker for his sixth goal of the season while also registering a goal in his third straight game.
Belleville nearly had a two goal lead but Sens captain Erik Burgdoerfer rang the post from the slot off of Tambellini's pass in the final few minutes of the frame.
The Senators did have its two goal lead at 7:11 of the third as Abramov buried his first as a Senator after driving the net and sliding the puck under Berdin as he attempted a poke check on the Russian forward.
Tambellini buried an empty-net goal at 17:14 for his 13th goal of the season before Batherson wired a one-timer with 3.8 seconds left in regulation to make it 4-0.
The first period saw a ton of shots as the two team's each registered 14 shots with Manitoba coming the closest to grabbing the lead as Logan Shaw rang the post on a power play opportunity. Belleville's best chance came through JC Beaudin who drove the net short-handed after skating through the Moose defence but Berdin was able to get just enough of his shot to deflect it over the crossbar.
With tonight's win, Belleville's point streak has hit 17 games which puts them in a tie for eighth place for longest point streak in AHL history since 2001.
The Senators are back in action Thursday when they visit Cleveland. Belleville returns home March 15 to host Laval with tickets available.
