Moose Blanked by Belleville
March 2, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (27-26-3-2) fell 4-0 in the rematch with the Belleville Senators (30-23-3-4) on Saturday night. The game was fast-paced early, with Manitoba outshooting Bellville 5-1 in the first six minutes. The Moose took a double minor at 10:42 of the first, leading to some strong chances for the Senators. Mikhail Berdin made 14 stops in the opening period, including two standout saves, keeping Belleville off the board. Despite some power play chances of their own, including Logan Shaw hitting the post, Manitoba couldn't beat Marcus Hogberg. The shots and score were even at 14 and zero respectively after period one.
Belleville opened the scoring at 6:10 of the second, with Manitoba on the power play. The puck was turned over at the blue line and Darren Archibald broke in alone to score his second goal in as many nights. Manitoba's best chance of the period came with a little less than five minutes left on the clock when Mason Appleton set up Shaw in tight, but he couldn't solve Hogberg.
Belleville pulled away in the third, starting with Vitaly Abramov breaking in alone, avoiding the Berdin poke-check, and putting the Senators up 2-0. That score held until Manitoba emptied their net. Adam Tambellini found a loose puck in the slot and fired it down the ice, and into the empty cage. Drake Batherson added his name to the scoresheet with three seconds left on a Belleville power play. The Moose could not solve Hogberg, resulting in the 4-0 final. Berdin stopped 31 of 34 shots on the night.
