Hershey Bears News Release
Five points out of first place, but with the second best point total in the AHL, HERSHEY jumps back into action Friday with a game in Bridgeport against the Sound Tigers. With 30 games to go, the BEARS have 72 points in the ultra-competitive East Division race, five back of first place Norfolk but five points ahead of third place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Friday's game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
HERSHEY faces the Sound Tigers Friday at the Arena at Harbor Yard, a team that has arguably had the most success against the BEARS in 2006-07. Friday's meeting in Connecticut is the sixth meeting of eight this season between the two clubs, and Bridgeport has taken points in five of the previous six encounters. Despite points in four of five games against Bridgeport, the BEARS have just one win to show for its efforts. HERSHEY defeated the Sound Tigers 6-3 in Bridgeport on December 26.
Rugged forward Kip Brennan is expected to make his HERSHEY debut on Friday. Brennan, who skated for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2005-06, was signed to a player tryout contract earlier this week. He will wear number 37 for the Chocolate and White. Goaltender Frederic Cassivi is expected to make his fourth consecutive start on Friday since returning to the lineup eight days ago. In addition to playing four straight games for HERSHEY, Cassivi served as Olie Kolzig's backup Sunday and Tuesday for the Washington Capitals.
The night on ice Friday in the American Hockey League's East Division features the Norfolk Admirals at home against the Albany River Rats in the second game of a two-game series. The Portland Pirates are in Wilkes-Barre tonight to face the Penguins, while Philadelphia is on the road to play the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena.
Friday's game will be carried by the BEARS Radio Network beginning at 7:10 p.m. John Walton has the call of the game at the Arena at Harbor Yard. HERSHEY will return home to face the Albany River Rats Saturday night at GIANT Center for a 7:00 p.m. start. Tickets are still available for the game at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
