Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, MA - Jason LaBarbera made 39 saves for his sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory for the Manchester Monarchs (32-12-6-1) over the Lowell Devils (23-21-4-1) at the Verizon Wireless Arena Friday night.
The Devils opened strong, going on the power play just over a minute into the game. They peppered Manchester G Jason LaBarbera with 15 first period shots, but the veteran netminder was equal to the task. He kicked out every chance the Devils had, while his team took the 1-0 lead. Kevin Dallman, recently assigned from Los Angeles, scored on a two-man advantage at 7:32 of the first for the only goal of the period.
The second period started with some fireworks as the Devils David Clarkson squared off with Tim Jackman in the opening minute of the frame. Lowell outshot Manchester 16-6 in the period, but LaBarbera continued to shut the door. Frank Doyle stopped 10 of 11 shots through 40 minutes of play, and the second period ended 1-0.
The Devils had their chances in the third period but couldn't cash in. They had four power plays in the final stanza and eight in the game, but couldn't beat LaBarbera. Meanwhile Manchester extended the lead at 8:41 with Jackman netting his 12th of the season, accounting for the final score. It was the Devils first regulation loss in their last six games, and Manchester's 10th win in a row. LaBarbera, meanwhile, has allowed just nine goals in seven games (6-0-1) against Lowell.
