Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Corey Locke scored the game-winning goal with 13 seconds left in overtime, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 6-5 win over the Chicago Wolves on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The win extended the 'Dogs point streak to eight games, improving their record to 29-18-2-2 on the season.
The teams exchanged goals 38 seconds apart in the first period. The Wolves opened the scoring at 2:08 of the frame when Cory Larose centered the puck to Brett Sterling who beat netminder Yann Danis with a high shot to the blocker side. The Bulldogs quickly replied at 2:46 of the period when Jean-Philippe Cote let a wrist shot go that found the back of the net behind Wolves' goaltender Michael Garnett.
Matt D'Agostini then notched two quick goals 39 seconds apart to give Hamilton a 3-1 lead. D'Agostini missed the franchise record for the two fastest goals in a game by only four seconds, which was set by Michel Riesen against the Hershey Bears on February 21st, 2001. First, with only six seconds remaining in the opening period, D'Agostini gave the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead on a 5-on-3 power play. Then only 33 seconds into the middle stanza, D'Agostini scored another power-play goal to increase Hamilton's lead to 3-1. With assists on the second D'Agostini goal, Andrei Kostitsyn (seven games) and Mikhail Grabovski (six games) each extended their point streaks.
The Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead at 12:43 of the second period when Andrei Kostitsyn posted his 17th goal of the season. Cory Urquhart and Mathieu Biron earned assists on the goal.
Chicago cut into the Hamilton lead when Derek MacKenzie scored a shorthanded goal at 17:49 of the middle frame. Steve Martins picked up an assist on the goal that made the score 4-2.
At 1:21 of the third period, the Bulldogs increased their lead to 5-2 when Kostitsyn finished off a three-way passing play from Matt D'Agostini and Mikhail Grabovski on the power play.
With three consecutive goals by Andy Delmore (5:32), Colin Stuart (7:33) and Alex Bourret (17:16) respectively, Chicago evened the score at 5-5 and sent the game to overtime.
Hamilton would not be denied as Cory Locke registered his 12th goal of the season, sealing a 6-5 victory for the Bulldogs. Locke picked up the puck in close after Duncan Milroy's wrap-around attempt and beat Garnett with a high shot to the top corner. The goal was scored with only 13 seconds remaining in overtime.
The Bulldogs went 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Wolves were 1-for-10 with the extra-man.
The 'Dogs return to action at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10th, when they host the Philadelphia Phantoms at Copps Coliseum.
