Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals (36-11-4-1) fell 4-2 to the Albany River Rats (22-23-2-2) on Friday night at Scope to snap a six-game winning streak and a fourteen-game home winning streak.
Norfolk took the lead on their first shot in the game's first minute. Martin St. Pierre sent a quick wrist shot from the right faceoff circle past Albany goaltender Justin Peters just 39 seconds into the game. The goal extended St. Pierre's scoring streak to ten games, and Dustin Byfuglien stretched his streak to five games with a point by assisting on the play.
The Admirals' lead doubled toward the end of the period. St. Pierre's one timer from the bottom of the left circle was initially stopped under Peters's right leg pad. David Bolland poked it into the net at 16:16 for a 2-0 Norfolk lead.
The River Rats cut the Admirals' lead in half with just 22 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Keith Aucoin connected on a cross-ice pass with a one timer that beat Admirals goalie Corey Crawford at 19:38 for a power play goal.
Albany knotted the score at 2-2 early in the second stanza with another man advantage marker. Jakub Petruzalek found a blocked shot in the slot and shot it into the back of the net at 1:22.
The River Rats took the lead 6:35 into the final frame on a goalmouth scramble. Pat Dwyer found the puck in the crease and got it over the goal line for a 3-2 Albany lead.
Petruzalek's second goal of the game at 9:38 closed out scoring on the game, as his shot from the slot found its way through Crawford's pads.
Crawford (25 shots, 21 saves) got the loss to snap his franchise record 11-game home winning streak. Peters (21 shots, 19 saves) picked up the victory.
The Admirals were 0-4 on the power play. Albany was 2-4.
