Hershey Bears News Release
Amidst the heavy snow in the Worcester Friday, the BEARS will take on the Sharks in the second and final meeting of the year between the two clubs. HERSHEY has won two of the first three games of the trip, winning in Manchester and Portland, but falling in Bridgeport last Sunday afternoon.
The Sharks have a 1-0-0-0 lead in the season series after a 2-1 overtime win at GIANT Center on December 3. Former BEARS winger Graham Mink scored the game-tying goal in the second period before Grant Stevenson won the game in overtime. Goaltender Frederic Cassivi is expected to draw his first start for HERSHEY since February 10. Cassivi was recalled to Washington on February 14 and returned this past Wednesday. The Sharks are expected to start goaltender Dmitri Patzold for tonight's game at the DCU Center.
Friday's game marks the first time the BEARS have traveled to Worcester to face the Sharks, who are playing in their inaugural season. HERSHEY last played a game in the city of Worcester on December 3, 2004, with Tom Lawson posting a 1-0 shootout victory over the Worcester IceCats.
The night on ice Friday in the East Division features the Albany River Rats, newly installed in fourth place in the East after a win Wednesday over Bridgeport, traveling to Binghamton to play the Senators at 7:05 p.m. Rochester is in Philadelphia to play the Phantoms Friday night, while Bridgeport is in Norfolk to play the Admirals at 7:15 p.m. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have the night off on Friday.
Friday's game is a go from the DCU Center, despite a late season snowstorm bearing down on the greater Boston area. Worcester, located straight west of Boston, is expecting four inches of snow prior to gametime, and another six to ten inches of snow Friday night. The game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490-AM and 960-AM) beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of action from the DCU Center. The BEARS will return home to face the Philadelphia Phantoms Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. and the Binghamton Senators Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
