Defenseman Birnstill Signed to ATO

Peoria, Ill. (March 16, 2007) - Peoria Rivermen General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald announced today that rookie defenseman Steven Birnstill has been signed to an amateur try-out contract for the remainder of the season.

Birnstill, 21, recently completed a four-year NCAA Division I career with the Northeastern University (NU) Huskies, collecting 58 points (8g, 50a) in 130 career games. The 6-foot-1, 191-pound native of Commack, New York, notched a team-leading 13 assists and was tied for fourth on the team with 16 points during the 2006-07 campaign. As a junior, he led the team in assists (14) and was named Team MVP.

On Friday, March 16, Peoria continues its season-long, seven-game road trip by visiting the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 p.m. at the Bradley Center. And on Saturday, March 17, the Rivermen conclude their seven-game road swing in Omaha at 7:00 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. On Sunday, March 18, the Rivermen return home to battle the Manitoba Moose at 4:00 p.m. It is an Insight Family Day with four (4) tickets, four (4) hot dogs, four (4) Cokes and four (4) bags of Kitchen Cooked chips for just $38 ($70 value).
