Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Ryan Potulny scored twice and Scott Munroe recorded his first professional shutout with 25 saves to lead the Philadelphia Phantoms to a 3-0 win over the Rochester Americans on a wintery Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Matt Ellison also scored for Philadelphia, which because of an out-of-town win from Albany, remains nine points out of the final playoff spot in the East Division. All three goals were scored in the second period. The Phantoms opened the scoring 35 seconds into the frame when Nate Guenin settled a bouncing puck for Mark Cullen in the right wing circle. Cullen slid the puck to the hash marks, where Potulny grabbed it and continued towards the left wing before snapping it home just before reaching the left faceoff circle. Philadelphia took a 2-0 lead at 12:52. Denis Tolpeko carried a puck over the Rochester blue line and dropped a pass to Ellison, who snapped a shot from the slot that Adam Dennis stopped. But Ellison muscled past a defender to grab his own rebound and fire it in from the left side before Dennis could dive in front of the puck. The lead grew to 3-0 just 1:18 before the second intermission. Cullen dug a puck out of the right corner and backhanded it to an open Potulny to the right of the net. The rookie buried it for his second of the night and 11th of the season to close out the scoring. Munroe's 25 saves earned him the win and second star honors, while Potulny took top billing and Cullen the third star. Dennis made 30 saves on 33 shots in recording the loss.
