Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums pounded 14 base hits and scored in five of their final six at-bats to blitz the Florence Freedom 10-1 on Saturday night at UC Health Stadium. It was Traverse City's second straight win.

After a scoreless first three innings, the Beach Bums offense woke up in a big way in the fourth inning. Jose Vargas led off with a single and promptly scored on a Jovan Rosa double to put TC on top 1-0. Two batters later, Kevin Taylor smoked a double down the left field line to plate Rosa and make it 2-0. Taylor would come around to score on a Jake Rhodes single to up the lead to 3-0.

An inning later, Florence starter Casey Henn (5-5) walked the bases loaded with nobody out and was lifted for Chris Cummins. Sean Gusrang greeted Cummins with an RBI single to make it 4-0. Taylor then reached on an error by the second baseman that resulted in two runs scoring before another tally scored on a double play ball to give Traverse City a 7-0 lead.

The Beach Bums tacked on runs in their last three at-bats on a Josh Miller fielder's choice in the seventh, Rosa solo homer in the eighth, and a Miller RBI groundout in the ninth. Rosa's home run was his sixth of the year and was part of a night in which he reached base all five times. Rosa was officially 2-for-2 with a double, homer, three walks, three runs scored and two RBI.

Taylor posted a career night for Traverse City going 3-for-5 with three doubles, three runs scored and two batted in. Jeff DeBlieux (2-for-5), Rhodes (2-for-5, RBI) and Miller (2-for-5, 2 RBI) all had multi-hit games as well.

The offense was all in support of Ian MacDougall, who posted another fantastic outing for TC. The Beach Bums southpaw gave up just one run, a solo homer to Jacob Tanis in the sixth, across seven innings. MacDougall (4-3) scattered six hits and struck out three to earn his second straight win. Corey Alexander made his professional debut and tossed two scoreless frames to finish the contest for TC.

Traverse City will look to make it three wins in a row on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. ET. Casey Delgado (5-3, 2.98) gets the ball for the Beach Bums while Dave Middendorf (4-5, 4.03) goes for the Freedom. Those unable to make the game can listen to the broadcast starting at 4:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
