Joliet Slammers News Release

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-rallied late but lost 8-7 to Schaumburg on Saturday night at Silver Cross Field.

The Slammers' Andrew Busby got off to a slow start but did not allow a run in the 1st inning even though he walked the bases loaded. He did allow three runs in the 2nd though on a RBI single from Ryan McChesney and a Joe DePinto 2-run single. The Slammers came back to tie it with three runs in the next two innings. JD Dorgan singled in a run and then Chris Epps was hit by a pitch to score a run with the bases loaded. Those runs came in the 2nd and then a Matt Weaver RBI double tied it 3-3 in the 3rd. Busby settled in to retire 8 in a row before Schaumburg took back the lead in the 5th on a Tony Delmonico RBI single. Eddy Martin then doubled in two runs to make it a 6-3 Boomers lead. An RBI single from Gerard Hall pushed it to 7-3 and knocked Busby from the game in favor of Matt Costello. He pitched well in the 6th and allowed a bloop RBI double to Mark Nelson to make the score 8-3 in the 7th. Costello allowed just that one run in 4 1/3 innings of relief. In the bottom of the 9th Joliet tried to come all the way back. Russell Moldenhaur singled in a run and then Matt Weaver followed with an RBI single to make it 8-5. A grounder from Adam Giacalone became a fielder's choice and throwing error to move it to 8-6. Josh Scheffer then had a broken bat grounder that became another throwing error to make the score 8-7. Adrian English then bounced out to end the rally and the game. Joliet outhit the Boomers 16-10 but fell short as Schaumburg has now won 9 of their last 10 games.

Before the bottom of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $750 to a lucky fan as part of their Amazing August promotion. Each home game in August will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. Friday's payout to that lucky winner to $5000.

The Slammers continue their Schaumburg series with Sunday's Family Day at 1:05pm, where kids 12-and-under eat free and can run the bases after the game as well as get autographs from the players. The home stand concludes with a Military Monday at 7:05pm where past and present Military members get in for free. Slammers action this summer is broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com.
