
Otters Hold on for 12-11 Win at River City

(O'FALLON, MISSOURI) - The Evansville Otters (40-24) narrowly held on for a 12-11 series-clinching win over the River City Rascals on Friday night.
Evansville led the game 11-2 until River City scored nine of the final 10 runs, pulled within a run in the eighth and missed out on a walk-off home run by feet in the Otters win.
With the tying run at third with two outs in the ninth, Saxon Butler hit a line drive to deep left-center field that was caught by J.R. Higley at the wall to end the game.
After both teams scored a run in the first, Evansville added four more runs in the second. Higley hit an RBI single, catcher Kolin Conner hit a two run home run and infielder Josh Allen hit his second home run in as many innings.
Up 7-2, the Otters added four more runs in the fourth including an RBI double from Chris Elder for the nine run lead.
River City responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth to trail just 11-7.
Outfielder Chris Sweeney hit a solo home run in the sixth which proved to be the game winner.
The Rascals scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth before falling a run short in the ninth.
Allen went 3-for-3 in the game with three runs scored and two home runs. Sweeney's home run was his 13th of the season, tied for eighth most in single season franchise history.
Evansville will travel overnight to Ohio to begin a three-game weekend series at the Lake Erie Crushers on Saturday. The Otters will have RHP Taylor Dennis (2-1, 5.01 ERA) on the mound against Crushers lefty Matt Rein (0-5, 5.63 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 pm CDT.
The game will be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Announcer Mike Radomski will have the call beginning with the pregame show at 5:45 pm CDT.
