Baysox Shut Out for First Time in 2021

June 30, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release

Despite tallying eight hits, three more than the Akron RubberDucks, Bowie was unable to score and left 10 men on base in their 2-0 loss on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Bowie's best chance to score came in the third, when Chris Hudgins doubled with Robert Neustrom at first base. Neustrom was waved home, but he tripped and fell as he rounded third base, and was forced to retreat to third. With two in scoring position and two outs, the Baysox left both men stranded.

On his MLB rehab assignment in Akron, Franmil Reyes opened the scoring, hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning. That would end up being the only run allowed by Blaine Knight all evening.

Knight exited after 5.2 innings, and he allowed just two hits (one of which was the home run) with two walks and six strikeouts.

Diogenes Almengo allowed one run in his one inning of work, when Chris Roller hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Oscar Gonzalez from third.

Nick Vespi worked a scoreless inning and a third to finish out the night.

Of note offensively, Patrick Dorrian, in his final plate appearance of the night, extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the eighth. That is the longest streak of any Bowie player this year.

Bowie is back in action against Akron on Thursday night, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Gray Fenter, with his 3-2 record and 8.90 ERA, will start for the Baysox.

The Baysox 2021 season is presented by Money One Federal Credit Union. The Baysox return home for a six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels beginning Tuesday, July 6 through Sunday, July 11. For tickets, promotional event information and game times, CLICK HERE or call 301-464-4865.
