Ducks Shutout Bowie Baysox, 2-0, Behind Franmil Reyes Solo Home Run

After a 45-minute weather delay, the Akron RubberDucks use a Franmil Reyes home run and strong pitching to shut down the Bowie Baysox 2-0 on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Franmil Reyes: 1-for-3, lineout to RF in second, HR to RF in fourth, strikeout swinging in the seventh.

Turning Point

After three scoreless innings, Franmil Reyes would crack the scoreboard and get the fans out of their seats when he launched a solo home run to right field to give Akron the 1-0 lead. The Cleveland Indians slugger launched a 2-1 fastball 365 ft. into Homerville in right field with an exit velocity of 97 mph.

Mound Presence

Zach Draper took the hill for Akron and kept the Bowie Baysox off balance all night long. Despite allowing a hit in each inning of work, Draper tossed 4.2 scoreless innings, striking out six Baysox hitters and only allowing five hits while issuing two free passes. Nic Enright followed in relief and had dynamite stuff against the vaunted Bowie lineup. The recent call-up from the High-A Lake County Captains continued his hot start with Akron by punching out five batters over 2.1 innings and only surrendering one base hit. The Virginia Tech product would pick up his first win at the Double-A level in only his second appearance out of the bullpen. The RubberDucks clsoer Nick Mikolajchak would finish the shutout by tossing two scoreless innings and striking out four.

Duck Tales & Notebook

Following Franmil Reyes' moonshot home run in the fourth inning, the RubberDucks would add on in the seventh when Chris Roller hit a sac-fly to center field to score Oscar Gonzalez to make it 2-0 Akron. Oscar Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 15 games when he laced a line drive single into right The RubberDucks stranded four runners on base and were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Logan Draper's six strikeouts tonight are a season high, and mark his highest total since 8/1/19 for Lake County when he struck out eight batters against Lansing ... Time of Game: 2:43... The RubberDucks will continue their series with the Bowie Baysox on Thursday, July 1 at 6:35 PM. Eric Mock (0-1, 2.57 ERA) will take the mound for Akron against Bowie starter Gray Fenter (3-2, 8.90 ERA).
