Sea Dogs Fall in Extras to Fisher Cats

MANCHESTER, NH - In a tightly contested game, the Portland Sea Dogs fell in 10 innings to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 10-9 on Tuesday night at Delta Dental Stadium. The Sea Dogs fall to 26-22 while the Fisher Cats improve to 22-26.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Chris Bec lined a lead-off RBI single to left field scoring the runner placed at second base, Tanner Kirwir. Trailing 9-8, the Fisher Cats tied the game when Otto Lopez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. New Hampshire walked it off with a single to left field and Portland fell, 10-9.

Brody Rodning (2-3, 6.26 ERA) was given the win tossing the tenth inning allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out two. Seth Blair (0-1, 2.13 ERA) was given the loss for Portland allowing the winning run to score.

Portland started scoring in the top of the first inning. Pedro Castellanos lined a single to left field then scored on an RBI single to left field by Triston Casas. Joey Meneses then doubled down the right field line moving Casas to third base. Hudson Potts popped up a sacrifice fly to centerfield bringing Casas home and the Sea Dogs led, 2-0. Ronaldo Hernandez singled home Meneses and Portland led, 3-0 after the first inning.

Tanner Kirwer hit his first Double-A home in the bottom of the second inning and the Fisher Cats were on the board, 3-1.

Hudson Potts hit his second home run in as many games in the top of the fifth inning. It was a two-run blast to left field, extending Portland's lead, 5-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Fisher Cats plated three runs and pulled within one run. Nick Podkul and Chavez Young each reached on singles. Otto Lopez then drilled a two-run triple to right field. An RBI single to left field by LJ Talley brought home Lopez, and the Sea Dogs led 5-4 after the fifth.

Ryan Fitzgerald and Grant Williams each recorded triples in the top of the sixth inning. Fitzgerald scored on William's triple to right field while Williams also came home to score on a throwing error by the right fielder, Tanner Kirwir to third base, extending Portland's lead, 7-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kirwir was hit-by-a-pitch to leadoff the inning. Chavez Young then singled him home and the Sea Dogs continued to lead, 7-5.

The Fisher Cats tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. After LJ Talley drew a leadoff walk, he moved to third on a double by Jordan Groshans. Talley then scored on a passed ball by Ronaldo Hernandez. A sacrifice fly by Kirwir brought home Groshans and the game was tied, 7-7.

In the top of the tenth, Ryan Fitzgerald was the runner placed at second base and scored after a lead-off single by Devlin Granberg. Pedro Castellanos then singled home Granberg and the Sea Dogs led, 9-7.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will meet for game two of the series tomorrow, June 30 at 7:05pm. Portland will send RHP Brayan Bello (0-0, 2.37 ERA) to the mound while the Fisher Cats will have RHP Elvis Luciano (0-0, 2.95 ERA) on the bump.
