Bridgewater, New Jersey - The New York Yankees have announced that Somerset Patriots right-handed pitcher Luis Medina has been invited to participate in the 2021 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in Denver, Colorado. The game will be played at 3:00 pm ET (1:00 pm MT) on Sunday, July 11th and be aired live on MLB Network as a part of the All-Star Weekend.
Medina becomes the first Patriot to participate in a Futures Game. New York's No. 7 (MLB Pipeline) and No. 9 (Baseball America) ranked prospect has 20 strikeouts over his first three games in Somerset.
Baseball America referenced Medina as having the "best pure stuff" in the Yankees system, with a fastball that has hit triple digits and a plus-rated curveball and changeup.
Medina will be joining outfielder Jasson Dominguez, the top-ranked Yankees prospect, in Denver for the event.
Originally acquired by the Yankees as an international free agent in July of 2015, Medina started this season 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 32.2 innings as a starter for Hudson Valley (High-A). On May 20th, he struck out a career-high 11 batters over 5.2 innings of work against the Brooklyn Cyclones.
