Mobile, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears (61-67, 24-34) used three multi-run innings and an eight inning start from Wes Roemer to defeat the first place Jackson ville Suns (74-54, 39-19) 8-4 in front of 2,019 Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Chattanooga defeated Mississippi on Monday, shaving the magic number for a Suns postseason berth down to two. A Mississippi loss and Jacksonville win on Tuesday would clinch a playoff appearance of some kind for the Suns.

BayBears starter Wes Roemer (8-8) picked up the victory, allowing three runs and five hits over eight innings with one walk and nine strikeouts. Suns starter Nic Ungs (9-3) fell in the loss, giving up five runs and seven hits over five and one-thirds innings.

Mobile opened the scoring in the second inning, scoring three runs against Ungs.=2 0Cyle Hankerd doubled home Ricardo Sosa before a Matt Tupman sacrifice fly scored Bryan Byrne for a 2-0 lead. Chris Rahl next doubled in Hankerd for a 3-0 score.

Jacksonville tied the game in the fifth inning with three runs against Roemer. A Brad Davis double, Nic Ungs groundout and Bryan Petersen sacrifice fly all plated runs for a 3-3 score.

The BayBears took the lead for good in the sixth inning, scoring on a Bryan Byrne double and Matt Tupman fielder's choice for a 5-3 score. Mobile added three runs in the eighth inning against reliever Jay Voss, on a two-run single from Byrne and Chris Rahl RBI single for an 8-3 lead.

Jacksonville ended the scoring in the ninth inning on20a Matt Dominguez RBI single for an 8-4 final.
