MOBILE, Ala. - Wes Roemer tossed eight spectacular innings while reaching a career-high nine strikeouts as the BayBears waltzed past the Jacksonville Suns 8-4 on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium, claiming the season series.

Roemer (8-8) was given the advantage in the second when the BayBears (61-67, 24-34) hammered out three doubles against Nic Ungs (9-3). Ricardo Sosa started the frenzy with a smash down the third base line and scored on a two-bagger by Cyle Hankerd. After Bryan Byrne walked, he moved to third on the Hankerd double while coming home on a Matt Tupman sac fly. Chris Rahl's two-base hit brought Hankerd to the dish to make it 3-0.

Roemer remained poised from there as he whiffed five over the first three frames. In the fifth, Roemer came unglued a bit with Kevin Randel stroking a lead-off double. After Matt Dominguez walked, Brad Davis blooped a two-bagger to score Randel. Dominguez came home on a groundout from Ungs while Davis reached the plate on a Bryan Petersen sac fly.

Pedro Ciriaco lifted the BayBears in the sixth with a lead-off single and dashed around the bases as Byrne doubled to the gap in right-center. Hankerd singled to push Byrne to third while Tupman hit a bouncer to first baseman Logan Morrison who tried to nab Byrne at the plate but couldn't, giving the BayBears a 5-3 cushion.

That was all Roemer needed as he finished strong, retiring 12 of the last 13 hitters he faced with four punch outs. He posted a perfect eighth inning by setting the top of the Jacksonville lineup.

In the bottom of the eighth, the BayBears blasted the contest wide open with four singles including a two-run knock by Byrne to score Ciriaco and Sosa. Byrne was drawn to the plate after a Rahl single against left-hander Jay Voss.

Jordan Norberto sealed the triumph in the ninth although he did cough up a run on a single by Dominguez.

The Mobile BayBears have sent nearly 100 players to the major leagues. They battle the Suns in game four of their five-game series on Tuesday night at 7:05 with Matt Torra (8-12, 4.01) getting the start. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
