ZEBULON, N.C. - The Tennessee Smokies (31-27) survived a high-scoring game to win 16-9 over the Carolina Mudcats (20-38) at Five County Stadium on Monday night for Tennessee's third straight win of the series.

With the win, the Smokies maintain at least share of the Southern League's North Division lead with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, following West Tenn's victory over the Birmingham Barons.

Ty Wright gave Tennessee an early 2-0 lead with his two-run homer in the top of the first, but the Mudcats answered in the bottom of the inning by batting around and scoring five runs off starter Andrew Cashner to give the Mudcats a 5-2 lead going into the second.

The Smokies stormed back in the top of the second, scoring eight runs to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The Smokies continued to pile on the runs, scoring three in the fifth and one in the sixth to take an eleven run lead.

The Mudcats rallied for four runs in the sixth to close the gap to 14-9 but the Smokies scored single runs in the seventh and ninth to end the game in a 16-9 win.

Marco Carrillo (4-1) picked up the win for Tennessee in relief, with Carolina's Jerry Gil (2-3) taking the loss.

The series continues on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium, with Hung-Wen Chen (7-9) pitching for Tennessee, who will be opposed by Carolina's Camilo Vazquez (3-4).
