Augusta Lynx News Release

Anthony Battaglia scored the game-winning goal and tacked on an assist on Ken Scuderi's first pro goal as the Augusta Lynx rallied for a 4-3 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on home ice Tuesday night.

Gwinnett (13-6-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Guillaume Desbiens and Scott Mifsud in the first period, but the Lynx (12-13-2) fought back. Scoring a pair of goals just 1:50 apart towards the end of the opening frame, Augusta tied the game at 2-2. Joel Stepp kicked off the scoring at 17:45 from Dan Sullivan and Nicolas Corbeil, followed by a Brian Passmore power play goal from Corbeil and Sullivan to knot the game.

Scott Kelman's second period marker pushed the Gladiators ahead 3-2, a power play goal at 3:23 that set the stage for Augusta's thrilling comeback.

Scuderi scored an early goal at 1:39 when his wrist shot hit the inside of the goal post behind Adam Berkhoel to tie the game at 3-3, with Battaglia collecting the only assist on the goal. Then Battaglia would score a fantastic goal by splitting the Gwinnett defense, cutting to his backhand and tucking the puck inside the far post at 4:56. BJ Gaustad and Martin Lapointe added the helpers on the goal, which would prove to be the game winner.

Jason Wolfe was spectacular down the stretch for the Lynx, stopping 14 shots in the third period alone and 33 on the night. Wolfe made a save on a shorthanded breakaway attempt by Mifsud in the second period, and stoned Scott Kelman on the doorstep with under a minute to play and Gwinnett's goal empty for a sixth attacker. Berkhoel took the loss with 24 saves.

Both teams finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play.

Augusta wraps up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule against the Checkers in Charlotte at 7:05 pm on Thrusday night. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show begins one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
