
Ice Dogs' Hewitt Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Greg Hewitt of the Long Beach Ice Dogs is the Reebok
Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 12-18.
The 5-foot-7 and 175-pound netminder was a perfect 2-0-0 with a shutout, a
goals against of 0.50 and a save percentage of .982. He began the week
stopping 30 shots in a 3-1 win at Pacific Division rival San Diego on Dec.
16 and the following night made 25 saves in a 5-0 win over Phoenix for his
first shutout of the season.
The 26-year-old has started the last five games for Long Beach, going
3-1-1 with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. Hewitt,
who has started 11 of the Ice Dogs last 12 games, is 11-10-2 with a
goals-against average of 2.97 in 23 appearances and leads the ECHL in
minutes (1331) while he is tied for second with 11 wins and is fourth with
559 saves.
Hewitt began his professional career in 2000-01 with Mobile and was 3-2
with a goals-against average of 3.60 and a save percentage of .899 in the
Kelly Cup Playoffs. He returned to Mobile in 2001-02 and was 20-22-15 with
two shutouts, goals-against average of 3.02 and a save percentage of .902
while leading the league with 3,471 minutes and 1,615 saves. He played for
Cincinnati of the ECHL in 2002-03 and was 15-10-1 with two shutouts, a
goals-against average of 2.96 and a save percentage of .909.
In 2003-04, Hewitt was 13-7-3 with a shutout, a goal-against average of
2.41 and a save percentage of .913 and named to the UHL All-Star Team
before Columbus ceased operations. He finished the season in the Central
Hockey League with Corpus Christi and also had one game in the American
Hockey League with Milwaukee where he was 1-0-0 with a goals-against
average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .923. Hewitt returned to the UHL
in 2004-05.
The native of London, Ontario played four years in the Ontario Hockey
League for Sarnia where he was 48-36-15 with five shutouts, a goals-against
average of 2.90 and a save percentage of .906 in 113 regular season games
from 1996-2000. In his final season in the OHL, he was 24-20-7 with three
shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.53 and a save percentage of .917 in
52 regular season games.

pct.) and Dustin Traylen, Trenton (2-0-0, 1.92 GAA, .944 save pct).
