Alaska Aces News Release

VICTORIA, BC - The Alaska Aces ran their club-record unbeaten streak to 14 games behind a goal and an assist from leading scorer Barrett Heisten and two more goals by Chris Minard in a 4-1 win over Victoria before 4,424 at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre.

Mike Wirll, who beat Alaska with a game-winner in overtime Friday, scored midway through the first period to give the Salmon Kings an early lead, but the Aces responded on their power play, which connected five times in Saturday's 8-0 romp and clicked again for the equalizer with 3:41 left in the frame, Heisten's 15th goal of the year. Heisten set up Cam Keith's go-ahead goal with eight minutes gone in the second period, which turned out to be the game-winner.

Chris Minard, who had scored twice in Friday's overtime loss, found the net twice more to seal the victory in the third period, running Alaska's record to 13-0-1 in its last 14 games and ensuring that the team will hold first place for another day. His first goal of the night came at 9:46 of the final period, and his second capped the scoring with 31 seconds left in regulation, giving him 19 on the season, tied for the ECHL lead. Matt Underhill posted 26 saves in earning his seventh consecutive victory between the pipes.

The Aces (19-3-3) will not play for the next eight days before returning to action for the opener of another three-game series against the Salmon Kings, this time at Sullivan Arena, beginning Wednesday, December 28, and continuing Friday and Saturday, December 30-31. All three contests will begin at 7:15 p.m., and fans attending Friday's game will receive an Aces trading card set, courtesy of the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, and the Homewood Suites.

Meanwhile, Alaska's NHL affiliate in St. Louis has sent goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu down to Peoria in the AHL, likely for at least a week. His status for the upcoming Victoria series in Anchorage remains unknown. All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
