INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians dropped their series opener with Louisville, 6-1, thanks to a five-run 12th inning for the visitors on Friday at Victory Field.

It was the sixth time this season the Indians (14-12) have gone into extra innings through the first 26 games, with none lasting fewer than 11 innings. The team played extras 14 times in 2015.

Louisville (16-10) ended the Indians' opponent scoreless streak at 22.1 innings with one out in the second. Brandon Allen connected for his first long-ball of the year, a solo shot. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh.

Indians starter Chad Kuhl went six innings allowing just the one run while striking out four with one walk in his quality start.

Danny Ortiz doubled to lead off the seventh, followed by an RBI double from Jacob Stallings to tie the game at one.

In the 12th, the Bats notched three hits to score a run before a walk by Brandon Allen loaded the bases. Steve Selsky then belted a grand slam to right field to make the score 6-1 where it would remain.

Tim Melville (1-1) earned the win while Trey Haley (0-3) was saddled with the loss.

The teams will resume play tomorrow evening back at Victory Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
