Asher, Bats Lift Pigs to 5-1 Win

Alec Asher did not allow an earned run over 7.0 IP as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (14-13) topped the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (15-14) by a score of 5-1 on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Asher (2-0) allowed one run (none earned) on three hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Dating back to last season, the right-hander has not allowed an earned run in his last 23.2 IP in Triple-A.

The IronPigs also had 12 hits in the game.

The RailRiders opened up a 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Slade Heathcott reached on a one-out fielder's choice, advanced to second on a throwing error charged to Asher and scored on Nick Swisher's two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Pigs grabbed a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs as Nick Williams led off with a single and scored on Tommy Joseph's (3-4, 2B, RBI, R) RBI double who later scored on a sac fly from Brock Stassi.

Another pair of runs in the fifth opened up a 4-1 lead for Lehigh Valley as Williams (2-4, RBI, 2 R) and Andrew Knapp each came through with RBI singles in the inning.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Anthony Swarzak (1-4) allowed four runs on nine hits while walking one and fanning two in 5.0 IP.

In the bottom of the sixth, Stassi led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Cedric Hunter's RBI single to give the IronPigs a 5-1 lead

Darnell Sweeney (2-4, 2B, R) also had a multi-hit game for the Pigs.

In his Triple-A debut, RHP Edubray Ramos (2.0 IP, H, 3 K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

The same two teams will begin a two-game set at PNC Field in Moosic on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. when RHP Zach Eflin (3-0, 2.05) will be on the bump for the Pigs against RailRiders RHP Luis Cessa (0-0, 3.86).
