Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Allentown, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) dropped their road trip finale to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) on Friday night, 5-1. The RailRiders (15-14) went 5-4 on their odyssey while the IronPigs (14-13) posted just their second win in five IronRail Series meetings on the young year.
The lone SWB score came in the first inning and went unearned on starter Alec Asher. Donovan Solano walked. An out later, Slade Heathcott took his place on a fielder's choice and an errant pick-off throw gave him second. Nick Swisher, who started in left field for the first time as a RailRider, promptly singled to right, scoring Heathcott for a 1-0 lead.
Asher (2-0) would allow just two more hits over his seven strong innings. He retired 13 of the last 14 he faced.
SWB starter Anthony Swarzak faced two over the minimum through three scoreless innings at the start, but ran into trouble in the middle innings. Tommy Joseph and Brock Stassi each drove in a run in the fourth while Nick Williams and Andrew Knapp did the same in the fifth. Swarzak (1-4) gave way to southpaw Tyler Webb in the sixth and Cedric Hunter rounded out the scoring with an RBI single that frame.
Webb allowed just one hit after that scoring blow and struck out five of the last seven men he faced.
The newest IronPig, right-hander Edubray Ramos, allowed a two-out infield single to Aaron Judge over two scoreless innings. In his Triple-A debut, Ramos struck out three and walked none.
The RailRiders return home for a nine-game homestand on Saturday, May 7. It starts with a two-game renewal of the IronRail Series against the IronPigs. SWB's Luis Cessa (0-0, 3.86) gets the ball against fellow right-hander Zach Eflin (3-0, 2.05). The first 1,000 kids in attendance will receive a CHAMP bank courtesy of the Times Leader. It will also be Fit Track Day, a community outreach initiative that helps promote physical activity, healthy eating choices and a good night's rest for kids. Participating children from area schools will be recognized on the field for their Fit Track efforts. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
OFF THE RAILS:
Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a walk. Through eight games played on the road trip he went 10-for-30 (.333) with six extra-base hits, six walks, and just five strikeouts.
The paid crowd of 8,499 was the biggest to see the RailRiders on the road this season.
