Cleveland Barons News Release
10/27/05 Manitoba 5, Cleveland 4
The Barons got on the scoreboard early as Matt Carkner scored his first goal of the season with just over two minutes expired in the first period. Patrick Rissmiller and Josh Hennessy added first period goals to end the period 3-0 in favor of the Barons. The Moose responded in the second with a new goaltender and proceeded to out-shoot the Barons 14-4 in the second period. Manitoba's Craig Darby, Josh Green, and Brett Skinner all scored for the Moose to tie the game at 3-3 through 40 minutes of play. Tim Conboy regained the lead for the Barons, but Manitoba's Sven Butenschon answered with a goal of his own goal to tie the game at 4. With less than four minutes to play, the Barons ran into some penalty trouble and gave the Moose a two-man advantage. The Moose responded with a game-winning goal from Alexandre Burrows for a 5-4 final.
10/29/05 Manitoba 4, Cleveland 0
Manitoba scored three first period goals and Wade Flaherty made 27-saves as the Moose defeated the Barons Saturday night. Just over 50-seconds into the first period, Jozef Balej scored his third goal of the season to put the Moose on the scoreboard. Manitoba added to the score just over a minute later on a wrist shot from Alexandre Burrows. Josh Green finished the scoring with a breakaway goal the beat Barons goaltender Joel Martin on his glove side. The team skated through a scoreless second, then Manitoba scored the lone goal of the third period as Jesse Schultz found the net at 13:13 of the third to make the final 4-0 in favor of the Moose. Joel Martin finished the night with 20 saves in his AHL debut.
Coming Up
11/01/05 Cleveland vs. Hershey - National City Rink in The Q
The Barons return home to take on the Hershey Bears on Tuesday for the first of two match-ups between the teams. Last time these two teams played, the Barons got their first ever victory against the Bears. Lifetime, the Barons are 1-6-1-0 against the Bears. Thus far this season, Hershey has a record of 5-3-0-2, placing them second in the six-team East Division.
11/04/05 Cleveland @ Rochester - Blue Cross Arena
The Barons look for their first victory against Rochester this season in the third meeting between the teams. The Barons are 0-2-0-0 this season against Rochester and Rochester is a perfect 16-for-16 on the penalty kill against the Barons. The last time these two teams met, the Amerks defeated the Barons 8-4 despite getting out-shot 40-27.
11/06/05 Cleveland vs. Syracuse - National City Rink in The Q
Cleveland faces Syracuse for the first of six meetings this season. The Crunch are currently 4-4-0-0 on the season. The Barons are 12-17-1-1-1 lifetime against the Crunch and Cleveland goaltender Dimitri Patzold is 4-4-0 lifetime against Syracuse, with a 1.86 goals-against-average.
Barons Player of the Week
The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is Matt Carkner. Carkner has earned a goal and an assist in Thursday's game in Manitoba, extending his point streak to three games. The goal was Carkner's first goal of the season and snapped a 79-game goalless streak for the native of Winchester, Ontario. The defenseman finished the week with a goal and an assist on five total shots and a +1 rating.
The "Young Guns"
Through eight games of the 2005-2006 season, the Barons are being led by first-year professionals. Steve Bernier currently leads the squad in goals (4), assists (5) and points (8). Second in scoring for the Barons is rookie Mike Iggulden with six points (2+4=6) followed by Josh Hennessy (2+3=5).
"Hooray For Bernier"
With an assist in Thursday's game this past week, Steve Bernier extended his point streak to seven games. With the point streak, Bernier has set the franchise mark for consecutive point streak to begin a season. He also sets the franchise record for rookie point streak to start a career. (The previous mark was held by David Cloutier, who tallied three points (1+2=3) in the first two games of his professional career during the 2002-03 season.) The Barons franchise record for points during the regular season is currently held by Miroslav Zalesak who registered points (6+8=14) in 9-consecutive games during the 2003-04 campaign. The franchise record for a goal streak is also held by Zalesak at five games (5-goals), also set during the 2003-04 season.
In The Show
Following injuries to San Jose's goaltenders, both Nolan Schaefer and Dimitri Patzold were recalled by San Jose last week. Schaefer made his NHL debut Wednesday night with a victory against Dallas. He was between the pipes again on Saturday for the Sharks shoot-out victory over the Calgary Flames. In their absence, the Barons have looked to Jamie Holden and Joel Martin. Both goaltenders attended training camp with the Barons.
The Time is Now...
The Barons 2005-2006 season has begun with seven of the first eight games within the Barons North Division. The Barons are currently 1-6-0-0 in their division so far this season. Eleven of the next thirteen Barons games will be against a North Division opponent. All together that's 18 of the Barons first 21 games to be played within the North Division. The Barons then play four consecutive games against the West Division before facing a North Division opponent in six of the following seven games.
Barons United With WTAM
It's time to stop being a spectator and get in on the action! The Barons are joining forces with other local professional sports teams and business for the 3rd annual United Way Sports Auction on 1100-AM WTAM. Currently under way is an on-line portion of the sports auction at www.wtam.com. There will be an on-the-air LIVE auction with WTAM beginning Tuesday, November 1st. Included among the memorabilia and experience packages will be; golf with a Barons player and golf pro Gary Trivisonno; Stick Boy for a Day with the Barons; a trip to the 2006 Masters Golf Tournament and more! Partnering with the Barons, the United Way and WTAM are the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers, IMG and Continental Airlines. All proceeds benefit the United Way of Greater Cleveland.

Fans can watch the game via B2 Networks' Live Video Stream of the game on a pay-per-view basis of $6.00 per game. There is also a free audio version of the broadcast offered. Every Barons game broadcast begins with a pre-game show 15-minutes prior to face-off.
