 Quad Cities River Bandits

Bandits Held Scoreless for Second-Straight Night

May 16, 2024 - Midwest League (MWL)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits were shutout for the fourth time this season and for the second in as many nights, as they fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 1-0 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Quad Cities' starting rotation turned in its ninth quality start of the year and its second in-a-row, with Steven Zobac turning in 6.0 innings and allowing just one run on Jay Harry's first-inning RBI single.

That lone tally proved enough as the River Bandits had no answers for Kernels' starter John Klein, who allowed just two base runners, struck out six, and retired 17 consecutive batters to close out Cedar Rapids' third win of the series.

Quad Cities found more success against reliever Jacob Wosinski and put the tying run in scoring position during both the eighth and ninth inning, but the Bandits went 0-for-5 with men at second and/or third and the right-hander would close the door with four strikeouts over 3.0 innings of relief.

Klein (3-0) earned his third win of the season in the effort for Cedar Rapids, while Zobac (2-2) shrank his season's earned run average to 2.91, but was saddled with the loss. Wosinski (3) earned a nine-out save for his third in as many opportunities this season.

Ryan Ramsey was the only man to pitch out of the Bandits' bullpen and posted his second-straight scoreless appearance.

Quad Cities will send Frank Mozzicato (2-1, 1.88) to the hill for game four of the six-game set tomorrow night against Cedar Rapids' C.J. Culpepper (0-0, 3.31). First pitch at Veterans Memorial Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.
