Austin Spurs News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Cady Lalanne recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Deshaun Thomas posted a team-high 21 points as the Austin Spurs edged the Idaho Stampede 104-103 Saturday night at Cedar Park Center.
San Antonio Spurs assignee Ray McCallum and Demetri McCamey each contributed 19 points for Austin (18-9). Phil Pressey led Idaho (11-20) in scoring with 18 points, followed by JJ O'Brien and Treveon Graham who each had 16.
Austin came out strong at the beginning of the game with a 7-0 run that was quickly put to an end by Idaho's 6-0 run. The early close score set the tone for how the rest of the quarter would play out as each team battled back and forth. O'Brien paced Idaho with seven points, while Thomas led Austin with 10 points, helping them come out on top, 30-28.
The highly-contested second quarter saw four lead changes and six ties. Idaho's biggest lead was by three points at 40-37 with eight minutes left in the quarter, and Austin's was by six at 53-48 with two minutes remaining until halftime. Each team scored 25 points in the quarter, ending the half with Austin up 55-53.
McCallum's 10 points in the third quarter helped Austin stay ahead. The team led by as many as eight at the five-minute mark, 74-66, but Idaho began a 12-2 run that gave them their only lead of the quarter, 80-78, with one minute left. The third was the only quarter in which Idaho outscored Austin, putting up 29 points compared to Austin's 23. Idaho led at the end of the third, 82-78.
Austin tried to get their lead back as they started the fourth quarter off with a 7-3 run to tie the game at 85 with nine minutes left, but Idaho responded with five unanswered points to again lead Austin, 90-85. Austin took their first lead since the third quarter when Julian Washburn hit a 3-pointer with five minutes remaining, bringing the score to 93-90. The team went on a 12-0 run to lead 97-91 at the three-minute mark.
With only 15 seconds remaining in the game, Austin was up 103-100 until E.J. Singler drained a 3-pointer for Idaho to tie the game at 103. It was Thomas who prevented the game from going to overtime with one-of-two made free throws at 0.9 seconds left that secured a 104-103 victory for Austin.
Next up, Austin heads to the DeltaPlex Arena to face Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. (EST). For ticket information, visit austinspurs.com or call (512) 236-8333.
