Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks snapped the Raptors 905 six-game win streak, 83-100, tonight at Erie Insurance Arena.
The BayHawks jumped out to a quick start shooting 89% from the field in the first six minutes of the game forcing a timeout from the 905. The 905 came out of the timeout and went an 9-0 run before Adreian Payne hit a jumper and closed the quarter with the BayHawks on top 23-20.
The 905 took the lead for the first time in the game with 6:22 left in the second quarter behind two Melvin Johnson III three-pointers. Johnson had 14 points in the second to propel the 905 into a 49-45 lead at half. Payne put up 17 points and six rebounds in the half. The BayHawks initial hot shooting cooled to 45%.
The BayHawks jumped out to a 14-2 run coming out of halftime. Melvin Ejim had five points in the run while the 905 turned the ball over five times. The Raptors stopped the run but Jordan Sibert hit a three at the end of the quarter to get the score to 71-62.
After allowing the 905 to close the gap in the opening minutes of the fourth, Erie pulled away by nine points again when Sibert hit a three and Ejim followed it up with two consecutive layups. Payne capped the 13-0 BayHawks run with a jumper. Bruno Caboclo scored five quick points to get within eight at 91-83 with 2:48 remaining but the BayHawks closed the game on 7-0 run and sealed the victory, 100-83.
Johnson posted 22 points, eight rebounds, and five assists on three of seven shooting from behind the arc. Caboclo had 19 points and eight rebounds. The 905 turned the ball over 23 times.
Ejim had a game-high 27 points to go with four rebounds and four assists on 10 of 15 shooting from the field. Adreian Payne had another strong game on assignment from the Minnesota Timberwolves with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Sibert had 17 points with 15 of those coming in the second half. Erie had 18 steals in the game, their largest total of the season.
