Attack Take Belarussian with Second Pick

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that with their second pick, 55th overall in the CHL Import Draft, they have selected Belarussian, Artur Gavrus. Gavrus, a 17 year old (1994 born) forward suited up for the Belarus squad in this years Under 18 Division 1, group "B" tournament. One of four 1994 born players on the team, Gavrus lead the Belarus team in scoring and finished third overall in the tournament by notching 6 goals and 4 assists in 5 games played.

The 5'10, 168lb winger was also the first Belarussian player selected in the 2011 KHL Junior Draft when he went 18th overall to the Atlant Moscow Oblast. Other notable players that were taken in the first round of the KHL Junior Draft include Saint John Sea Dogs forward Jonathan Huberdeau (3rd overall to Florida in '11) and Kitchener Rangers forward Gabriel Landeskog (2nd overall to Colorado in '11).

"Artur became available through conversations at the NHL Entry Draft," stated Attack GM Dale DeGray. "Artur has a high skill level and should make big contributions to the Attack organization in the years to come." DeGray went on to say that "we are extremely happy to have both Artur and Michael in our organization."

With the first pick in the Import Draft, the Attack selected Swedish forward Michael Schumacher who last weekend was a 7th Round Selection of the Los Angeles Kings.
