Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League selected Russian center Vladimir Tkachev (Chach-kev) from AK Bars Kazan with the 37th overall selection in the 2011 CHL Import Draft Wednesday afternoon.

Born October 5, 1993 in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, the 6-foot, 180-pound Tkachev earned a bronze medal with Team Russia in the 2011 World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Germany. He had three points in seven games on a team that featured top 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospects Nail Yakupov and Mikhail Grigorenko. Tkachev will also be eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Although the Otters have two picks in the second round, they must either pass or trade them away as they have already drafted two players in the selection process. Earlier today, the Otters drafted Norway native Sondre Olden, a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, with the 31st overall pick.

The London Knights used the first overall pick to select Finnish defenseman Martin Olli Maataa. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Quebec Remparts selected Grigorenko with the second overall pick, while the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League selected Swedish center Victor Rask, a Carolina Hurricanes prospect.
