Owen Sound Attack News Release

Sixty-five minutes of hockey wasn't enough to find a winner when the Owen Sound Attack and Erie Otters met on Friday, Dec. 4.

A back and forth affair at the Erie Insurance Arena saw the Attack lose their 2nd straight OT/SO game by a score of 3-2 in the first of two games on the weekend between the Midwest Rivals.

Michael McNiven turned aside 29 saves in the loss for the Attack, a performance that included a number of highlight reel saves early in the game.

Playing for the first time since the last matchup between the sides, Petrus Palmu opened the scoring for the visitors with just 3:36 left in the first period.

Palmu, who was injured in the Oct. 28 game between the Attack and Otters, returned to the lineup after missing 12 games with a lower body injury, and did so with a vengeance.

Late in a Baywest Nissan Powerplay, Justin Brack found a streaking Palmu just in front of the Otters' net and hit the 2nd year import with a pinpoint pass that Palmu made no mistake on. Jaden Lindo also picked up an assist on the play, which was the culmination of a largely dominant first period by the Attack.

The Otters would eventually tie the game, but the goal wouldn't come until early in the 3rd period.

With 4:59 having elapsed in the final frame, Kyle Maksimovich would tee up a one-timer that beat McNiven high to tie the game up. Dylan Strome and Erik Cernak would help out on the play for Erie, which came on the home team's 23rd shot of the game.

Owen Sound was determined though, and with 7:01 to play in the game Jaden Lindo would restore the one goal lead with his 10th of the season.

Playing four on four, Lindo would pick up a pass from Damir Sharipzyanov in the neutral zone and go streaking down the right hand side before firing a snapshot over the glove of Otters' goalie Devin Williams.

Lindo's go ahead goal would appear to seal a road win for the Attack, but Vanya Lodnia and the Otters had other ideas.

With Erie's net empty and just 1:36 left on the clock, Lodnia took a pass from Strome and beat a down and out McNiven to knot the game up at two and send the game to overtime.

A relatively slow overtime would pave way to a shootout between the sides that would only see one goal scored by all six shooters.

Unfortunately for the Attack, that solo goal would come off of the stick of Alex DeBrincat to win the game by a 3-2 score.

The Mac Taylor Corporation 3 Stars of the Game were led by Erie's Devin Williams and Dylan Strome, while McNiven was named the 3rd star of the evening for his performance.

The Mark McDade Remax Shots On Goal finished at 31-29 for the Otters on the evening.

Owen Sound and Erie will hit the ice again for the final game of the weekend set at 7:00pm on Saturday night at the Erie Insurance Arena.

The Attack will play their next home game on Saturday, Dec. 12 when they play host to the Sudbury Wolves in the 7:30pm affair.

Tickets for that game are available at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-7452.
