Flint Firebirds News Release

Flint, Mich. - Cue the teddy bears! On the first power play of the game, Nicholas Caamano set forth a cascade of teddy bears and assorted plush toys after burying a rebound from the bottom of the right circle past Saginaw's Evan Cormier in the first Teddy Bear Toss Night in Flint Firebirds franchise history.

After Caamano's goal 3:25 into the game, a well executed give-and-go play between Connor Chatham and Cullen Mercer resulted in Mercer finding the back of the net from the left circle to earn the Firebirds a two goal lead with 59 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Saginaw's Mitchell Stephens would score at 8:59 of the second period on a backhander from the left circle over Alex Nedeljkovic's right shoulder to give the Spirit their first goal of the evening while cutting Saginaw's deficit in half where the game remained as the two teams headed into the locker room after two periods of play.

20 seconds into the third period, Mitchell Stephens found Artem Artemov backdoor who scored to tie the game 2-2 before Saginaws's Connor Brown centered the puck which deflected of Mathieu Henderson's skate and into the Firebirds net, giving Saginaw a 3-2 lead at 1:09 of the third.

Connor Chatham scored a highlight reel goal with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, skating behind a Spirit defender and jamming the puck under Cormier's left pad to tie the contest 3-3 for the rest of regulation.

While in overtime, Flint's Will Bitten and Ryan Moore were denied on a 2-on-0 play before Connor Chatham was unable to convert on a breakaway forcing a shootout to determine a winner between the two clubs for the second time this season. Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy was the lone scorer in the shootout.
