Sarnia Sting News Release
The Sarnia Sting scored early goals in both the first and second periods to beat the North Bay Battalion 5-2, before 2,617, at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
Patrick White led the way with a three point effort that included two goals. Sasha Chmelevski had a goal and an assist. Pavel Zacha and Nikita Korostelev also scored to round out the scoring for the Sting. Justin Fazio stopped 19 of 21 shots in net.
Mathew Santos and Zach Shankar scored for North Bay. Jake Smith, was in net for the first two periods with 17 saves on 22 shots and Jake Kment came in in relief in the third period and was perfect facing 12 shots. Sarnia out shot North Bay 34-21 overall.
It didn't take long to get the fireworks going as both teams lit the lamp less than three minutes in. Pavel Zacha continued his torrid scoring with his team leading 14th goal, as he broke in and beat Smith top shelf. The goal was assisted by Jordan Kyrou, at 1:34. North Bay wasted no time and got the equalizer 76 seconds later as Mathew Santos did the damage with his 6th goal of the season. Mike Amadio drew the lone assist.
The game remained deadlocked as both teams settled in for a tight checking opening frame. However the Sting jumped back out in front at 11:55, as Chmelevski scored his sixth of the season from Patrick White. The opening period ended with the Sting nursing a one goal lead. Sarnia was the better of both teams as they carried the play, out shooting North Bay 12-4.
The Sting continued their strong play to start the middle frame and they were quickly rewarded, as White scored his sixth goal of the season. Both, Chmelevski and Noah Bushnell picked up the helpers at 3:36.
Earlier this week the Sting made a deal to acquire forward Matt Mistele, from the Oshawa Generals and the trade paid quick dividends for Sarnia. Mistele, picked up an assist, along with Jakob Chychrun, on the Sting's fourth goal - scored by Nikita Korostelev, at 8:27. Korostelev, let a wrist shot go from the slot for his seventh goal of the with Sarnia on the power play. White scored his second goal of the game and 7th overall, from Zachary Core at 14:40, to put Sarnia up 5-1. Sarnia scored three times in the second period on only ten shots.
Shankar, opened the scoring in the third period at 7:59 to pull North Bay within 3. The assists went to Max Kislinger and Cam Dineen. That was the only goal of the final period as Fazio shut the door for the Sting.
Sting Notebook:
Matt Mistele, making his debut with the Sting had an assist in his first game. He skated on a line with Anthony Salinitri and Nikita Korostelev.
Sarnia's three in three weekend continues Saturday night in Flint.
The Sting will return home for the Teddy Bear Toss game on Sunday afternoon (2:05 puck drop), to close out the busy weekend against Ottawa.

Sarnia scored the only special team goals going 1/7 on the power play and North Bat went 0/3.
Tonight's matchup against the North Bay Battalion is their last meeting of the season. North Bay defeated Sarnia 5-4 at home, October 2nd.
