Chesapeake Baysox News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Jake Arrieta struck out nine but allowed three runs in the first inning Friday night as the Baysox fell to the Harrisburg Senators 3-2. All three of Harrisburg's runs came with two outs in the first. With the loss, the Baysox fall to 19-20 on the season.
After allowing a leadoff double to Michael Daniel in the bottom of the first inning, Arrieta struck out Ofilio Castro. Daniel moved to third on a groundout by Leonard Davis and scored on a single to center by Joel Guzman. Marvin Lowrance took Arrieta deep to right for his team-leading eighth home run to put Harrisburg up 3-0. Arrieta would hold the Senators to three hits and a walk over his final five innings, but the damage was already done.
The Baysox put runners on base in the second and fourth innings, but hit into double plays both innings. Going back to Thursday's game, the Baysox hit into double plays five consecutive innings where runners reached base.
Bowie finally managed to avoid the double play in the fifth inning. Second baseman Miguel Abreu hit a one out double to left field and moved to third on a single by shortstop Brandon Pinckney. Adam Donachie brought Abreu home with a sacrifice fly center field and the Baysox cut the lead to 3-1.
Robert Valido got the Baysox going again in the eighth with a leadoff triple. Center fielder Dave Krynzel followed with his second single of the night to drive in the Baysox second run, but was caught attempting to steal second. It was the fourth time Krynzel has been caught stealing in 11 attempts.
Lefty Chad Thall relieved Arrieta to start the seventh inning and threw a pair of scoreless innings for his third consecutive scoreless appearance. He allowed one hit while striking out two.
The Baysox put the tying run on base in the ninth when Ambiorix Concepcion singled to center with one out, but Abreu flew out to center and Pinckney struck out to end the game.
Krynzel, Concepcion and Pinckney each had a pair of hits in the game, but the Baysox did not draw a walk in the contest and struggled to move runners into scoring position.
Harrisburg starter Luis Atilano held the Baysox to two runs through 7.0 innings on eight hits. He did not walk a batter while striking out one. Zech Zincola took the mound in the eighth and worked a pair of scoreless innings for his fifth save.
The Baysox and Senators meet again tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. LHP Bobby Livingston (4-1, 3.46 ERA) will go up against RHP Adrian Alaniz.
