New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH -The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, had their 31st player make his Major League debut after playing for the Fisher Cats this season; 16 of those players are currently on the 40-man roster of the first-place Toronto Blue Jays, and 12 have played for Toronto this season. The Blue Jays' active roster features nine players who have also starred in Manchester, and two pitchers -Casey Janssen and Ricky Romero- both returned to Merchantsauto.com Stadium earlier this month, making rehabilitation starts en route back to the parent club.

Second baseman Aaron Hill has stood out for the Blue Jays this season after leading the Fisher Cats to an Eastern League championship in 2004. Hill is among the league leaders with a .343 batting average, 34 RBI and 62 hits. Outfielder Adam Lind, who was the Eastern League MVP in 2006, ranks among the league leaders in RBI (35) and doubles (14). Right-handed pitcher Scott Richmond, who was the Fisher Cats Opening Day starter in 2008, has led the Blue Jays rotation. The American League Rookie of the month in April has posted a record of 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA in eight starts. Robert Ray, who pitched for the Fisher Cats in 2008 and led the team with eight wins, pitched last night at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox and worked 4.1 innings.

"We are extremely proud of the large contingent of Fisher Cats alumni who are making a major impact with the Toronto Blue Jays," said Fisher Cats Owner Art Solomon. "It makes these Blue Jays/Red Sox games all the more enjoyable, with so much at stake every night in the American League East playoff race."

"Our fans had an opportunity to get to know all of these former Fisher Cats who are now making a name for themselves as members of the first-place Blue Jays, as well as players who are now Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets and even World Champion Philadelphia Phillies," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner. "Seeing how many Eastern Leaguers were in New Hampshire just a year ago goes to show how close these players really are to becoming the next Major League stars."
