Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Nick Evans hit a home run in his return to NYSEG Stadium but the home team fell 3-1 to New Britain, which has won six straight. Rock Cats' starter Cole DeVries pitched into the eighth inning, giving up just one run.

The B-Mets grabbed the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on the Evans drive to right field off DeVries. Evans hit 14 homers in 75 games for Binghamton last year.

The Rock Cats responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Rene Tosoni led off the inning with a walk and scored on a two-run homer by Brandon Roberts off B-Mets starter Tobi Stoner.

Stoner pitched well for Binghamton (18-21) but got pinned with the loss going 6.2 innings while scattering only four hits. Roy Merritt came on in relief to get Stoner out of a jam in the seventh by inducing a Roberts' popout.

New Britain (20-20) added an insurance run in the eighth off Merritt on a two-out triple by Danny Valencia and an RBI single from Whit Robbins.

DeVries tied a season best with seven innings of work and exited after allowing the leadoff man to reach in the eighth. The B-Mets got the tying runs into scoring position against reliever Rob Delaney, but Delaney struck out D.J. Wabick to end the inning and the threat.

The B-Mets went quietly in the ninth as Anthony Slama picked up his ninth save of the season for the Rock Cats, striking out two.

Emmanuel Garcia was the only B-Mets' hitter to register a multi-hit game, going 2-3 on the night.

Binghamton takes on New Britain in game two of the four-game series tomorrow night. Ryan Coultas (3-1, 2.54 ERA) will take the mound for the B-Mets and Matt Fox (2-2, 3.96 ERA) will go for the Rock Cats. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
