
Appel, Guthrie lead IronPigs to 6-3 win

Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-25) bounced back on Friday night in front of a crowd of 9,565 as they beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (30-13). Mark Appel (1-0) earned the win after last pitching for the IronPigs during the 2017 season.
The IronPigs struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Darick Hall hit a sacrifice fly against Deivi Garcia (1-3) to score Scott Kingery and take a 1-0 lead. The Pigs scored four more runs against Garcia in the bottom of the second inning as Edgar Cabral hit an RBI triple to score Jake Elmore and Dalton Guthrie hit a home run. The home run for Guthrie was his first at the triple-A level. The home run was followed up by a Charlie Tilson RBI single.
Guthrie gave Lehigh Valley a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as he hit an RBI single against Braden Bristo to score Elmore. Appel left the game after five scoreless innings with two hits and two walks allowed plus four strikeouts. Brandon Kintzler pitched a scoreless inning in the top of the sixth for Lehigh Valley. He issued one walk.
Socrates Brito got Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning when he hit a sacrifice fly against Mike Adams to score Estevan Florial to cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 6-1. Florial hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning against Brady Lail to make the score 6-3.
The IronPigs and RailRiders play at 6:35 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday.
