The Americans jumped on the board first in the opening frame when Greger Hanson, scored his third of the season, and third in three games from Casey Pierro-Zabotel at the 3:05 mark. Utah would tie the score thirty two seconds later, but the Americans would respond again late in the first as the birthday boy Eric Roy would score his first professional goal, to give Allen a 2-1 lead after one period.
A wild second period saw Allen grab a 4-1 lead, with goals from Gary Steffes, on the power play from Chad Costello and Aaron Gens, and then Gens off the faceoff blasting one home from the right point to give Allen a three goal lead. Utah however was not done, as the Grizzlies score two goals late in the second 37 seconds a part to cut the lead to 4-3, and the Americans would take a one goal lead to the locker room. Allen led by one in shots on goal after two 30-29.
Both teams would score in the third period as Aaron Gens netted his second of the night, but on this evening, the Americans would need overtime to get the two points. After Utah tied the game with 25 seconds left in regulation, Allen would answer with an early goal in overtime as Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored the game winner on a breakaway for his second of the season and gives Allen the 6-5 win. The Grizzlies outshot Allen 43 to 38 for the game.
"Overall a very successful road trip," said Allen Americans defenseman Aaron Gens. The guys are starting to get use to each other, and were getting results on the ice. We're looking forward to having a few days off until we play Missouri"
