Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 25, 2015) - Tanner Eberle scored twice and added an assist and Zach Pochiro provided a goal and two assists as the host Quad City Mallards (3-1-1) defeated the Wichita Thunder (2-3-0) 5-2 Sunday.
Eberle broke a scoreless deadlock by burying a rebound at 9:06 of the first period. Ian Lowe tipped in the tying goal for Wichita at 12:42 but Eberle would pounce on a loose puck in the slot to put the Mallards back on top for good just 57 seconds later.
The Mallard lead stretched to 3-1 when Raphael Bussieres- who, like linemates Matt Neal and Olivier Archambault, produced two points- jammed in a rebound from the side of the net at 4:22 of the second period. Donnie Harris brought the Thunder back within one with a wrist shot from the right wing circle at 15:37 of the second.
The Mallards pulled away with a pair of third period power play goals. Neal stretched the lead to 4-2 from the doorstep at 12:08 of the third; at 16:16 Pochiro converted Ryan Tesink's cross-crease pass.
Steve Michalek set the stage for his teammates to put the game away by stopping 14 Thunder shots in the third. Michalek finished with 31 saves.
The Mallards return to action on the road against the Missouri Mavericks Tuesday night. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday evening, November 4 at 6:35 p.m. against the Mavericks.
