Solar Bears Acquire Defenseman Brad Richard from Jackals

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Brad Richard from the Elmira Jackals in exchange for forward Tyler Currier.

Richard, 26, had appeared in two games with Elmira this season, recording two penalty minutes. In 100 career professional games with Elmira, Iowa Wild and Alaska Aces, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound rearguard has 45 points (15g-30a) and 70 penalty minutes. Richard also helped Alaska capture a Kelly Cup title in his rookie season of 2013-14, when he was also named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team.

Prior to turning pro, Richard played for Hobart College (NCAA Division III), from 2009-13. The native of New Bedford, Mass. compiled 64 points (22g-42a) and 129 penalty minutes in 97 games for the Statesmen.

Currier, 27, originally was acquired by Orlando in an offseason trade with the Missouri Mavericks, but had yet to play in a regular season game for the Solar Bears.

The Solar Bears continue their fourth season in the ECHL, presented by Auto Justice Attorney Michael T. Gibson, P.A. at home on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Amway Center against the Florida Everblades, when the Solar Bears will host Epilepsy Awareness Night and Teacher Appreciation Weekend. The first 3,000 fans in attendance that night will also receive a free poster commemorating 10 seasons of Solar Bears hocke in Orlando.
