Steelheads' Third Period Comeback Falls Short against Aces

Idaho Steelheads News Release

Anchorage, AK (10/24/15)- For the second time in three games, the Idaho Steelheads (2-2-1-0) rallied to tie the game in the third period. Their comeback effort fell just short on Saturday night, however, in a 5-4 loss to the Alaska Aces (3-2-0-1) at Sullivan Arena.

Trailing 3-1 at the start of the third period, Jefferson Dahl pulled the Steelheads within a goal with a rising wrister off the rush from the top of the right circle, his third goal of the season. After a Tomasso Traversa power play deflection restored the Aces' two goal lead 1:55 later, Emil Molin got the Steelheads back in the game with his best period as a Steelhead.

Molin collected a Joe Basaraba pass at 7:13 of the third period, completely alone in front of the net and patiently deking Aces' goaltender Steve Summerhays to the ice before flipping the puck into a gaping net for his first goal as a Steelhead. Six and a half minutes later, Molin skated down the left wing and slid the puck to the slot where a driving Taylor Peters banged home his second of the season to tie the game.

That lead was short-lived, as 1:10 later Traversa found a rebound to net his second of the game and third in the past two contests.

The Steelheads fell behind 3-0 in the first half of the game after some early penalty trouble. Forward Colton Beck was given a five minute major and a game misconduct at 7:01 of the first period for a cross-check to Dave Eddy. The Steelheads killed off that penalty, but Liam Stewart opened the scoring just two seconds after the end of the power play.

In the second, the Steelheads were hit with a full-length 5-on-3 disadvantage when Andrew Panzarella was called for cross-checking and Peters joined him for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Aces cashed in on a one-timer by Landon Oslanski. The Steelhead penalty kill was 5-for-7 overall on the night.

Justin Breton took advantage of a neutral zone turnover to extend the Alaska lead to 3-0 at 14:19 of the second. Jefferson Dahl fed Andrew Carroll driving the net just 26 seconds later to get Idaho back in the game.

Eric Hartzell was charged with his first loss of the season, stopping 35 of the 40 shots sent his way. The Steelheads fall to .500 with their first back-to-back losses of the season, wrapping up a three-game road trip.

The Steelheads return to action Friday night at CenturyLink Arena when they welcome the Utah Grizzlies for the first of a three game home-and-home series, with puck-drop at 7:10.
