Evansville IceMen News Release

Evansville, IN - The Evansville IceMen ran into a hot goaltender for the second straight game, and saw a third period comeback fall short Saturday night in a 2-1 loss to the Toledo Walleye at the Ford Center.

Walleye goaltender Jake Paterson stole the show in the first period, robbing Evansville's Joe Zarbo on a forehand-to-backhand move early, followed by two stellar right-pad saves on Matthew Zay and Ryan Penny on a later sequence. Toledo scored the game's first goal at 8:24, when Marek Tvrdon tipped Jared Nightingale's shot from the point over the left pad of IceMen goalie Scott Greenham. Evansville outshot Toledo 11-5 in the opening frame, but trailed at the first break.

Toledo opened the lead to 2-0 early in the second, when Josh Shalla scored his first of the season on a wrist shot over Greenham's blocker from the right circle. The Walleye outshot Evansville 16-9 in the stanza, but Greenham flashed the glove three or four times to keep the game close.

The IceMen took advantage of a tired Toledo team in the third. The Walleye arrived in Evansville at 6am Saturday after the team's 5-2 win Friday in Kalamazoo. Paterson faced 19 shots in the third period, as the IceMen offense buzzed. Tyson Fawcett deflected a Chris Carlisle shot past the Toledo goaltender to put Evansville on the board, but the IceMen couldn't complete the comeback for the second game in a row.

Evansville hits the road for the first time next weekend for two games in South Carolina. The IceMen face-off against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 2pm CDT on Halloween, followed by a 2pm CDT Sunday tilt in Charleston against the South Carolina Stingrays November 1.
